so, today i was cruising facebook, like i usually do when i'm oh so bored.. and i came across a HILARIOUS status.. well, let me explain this a lil bit.. KANSAS CITY is the home of aspiring rappers, jockers, D!pP3D GuRLZS (later post), and confused people. In the midst of it all, it was a minute group of scholars, fashionistas, gentleman, and overall intelligence, but the latter seems to overcast the great possibilities that Kansas City has in store..such as the booming Crossroads District, Power & Light, and the Downtown areas. Not to mention, the third wealthiest suburb in the Nation, JOCO baby!

Moving on.. between the late 90s and early 00's (we're talking '01 - '06) and even right now, a lot of the urban youth that reside in kcmo & kck have become, shall we say..geographically challenged. Believing, in fact, that Kansas City is really the Bay (shout out to Cali!), thinking that the midwest is the new west coast, adopting the dialect, slang, and worst of all, the music.
Now, I have love for Cali & a lot of Bay area artists, but that's because they're BAY AREA ARTISTS!

...now. that was a mouth full I understand, but look-- it's unfortunate enough that everyone wants to be a rapper these days, but bottom line, a few rhymes in a rhyme book, a little studio time, and a homemade ass beat does not mean you are an artist! P.S.-- lil buddy up lies to himself so much, he's convinced himself. ouch.
definition from webster himself

art·ist (är'tĭst) n.

1. One, such as a painter, sculptor, or writer, who is able by virtue of imagination and talent or skill to create works of aesthetic value, especially in the fine arts.

2. A person whose work shows exceptional creative ability or skill: You are an artist in the kitchen.

3. One, such as an actor or singer, who works in the performing arts.

4. One who is adept at an activity, especially one involving trickery or deceit: a con artist.

[French artiste, from Old French, lettered person, from Medieval Latin artista, from Latin ars, art-, art; see ar- in Indo-European roots.]

hmm, soon as i find a video.. oh, best believe its comin BEEBEYYYY!*Tiny voice*

UPDATES!-- I found not one, but three & please, don't be modest about the million similarities.

  1. now I'd disagree with this for 2 valid reasons, first: the Bay to KC connection happened back in the 80's, I was raised on Mac Dre (rip) and E-40, and dre always had KC artists on his albums. Secondly cats in the city definitely have their own distinct lingo and style of rap now, such as Ron Ron, Rich, Block Life, Devi, Kevi, Cash Image blah blah and so on and so forth. I can definitely tell a KC rapper when I hear one, and thats not always a good thing lmao. When Dre was alive and goin KC was nothin but a mini-Bay no doubt, but we've grown out of it and have our own brand of foolishness to offer the world now :)
